Benefits of Avocado


               Avocado also known as alligator pear(mostly in africa)  is an egg-shaped, or spherical fruit that is rich in 26% Vitamin K, 20% Folate, 17% Vitamin C, 14% Vitamin B5, 13% Vitamin B6,  10% Vitamin E and of course 14% Potassium. This is including small amounts of Magnesium, Manganese, Copper, Iron, Zinc, Phosphorous, Vitamin A, B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin) and B3 (Niacin)

Also the avocado (Persea americana) is a tree that is native to South Central Mexico, classified as a member of the flowering plant  family Lauraceae. Alligator pear also refers to the tree’s fruit, which is botanically a large berry containing a single reddish brown seed. The yellow-green flesh inside the fruit is usually  eaten, but the skin and seed are discarded

1.  It is an excellent source of raw fat:

Excellent source of raw fat and rich in monounsaturated fat, which is easily burned for energy by the human body. An avocado has more than twice as much potassium as a banana which is of great health benefits to our boby. Avocado is a good source of folate, dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin E, riboflavin, and vitamin B6.

Lowering  Cholesterol is equally possible through continuous eating of Avocado more so as it is high in beta-sitosterol, a compound that has been shown to lower cholesterol levels. An internet report noted that in a particular study, 45 volunteers experienced an average drop in cholesterol of 17% after eating avocados for only one week.

2. Eating Avocado can help to prevent breast cancer:

Eating Avocado can help to prevent breast cancer. This owing to the fact that like olive oil, the fruit is high in oleic acid, which has been shown to prevent breast cancer in numerous studies. For the heart, a cup of avocado which is said to have  23% of the recommended daily value of folate is  very ideal. Studies show that people who eat diets rich in folate have a much lower incidence of heart disease than those who don’t. The vitamin E, monounsaturated fats, and glutathione in avocado are therefore great for the  heart.

surprisingly,f iber is another nutrient found in relatively large amounts in avocado. Fiber is indigestible plant matter that can contribute to weight loss, reduce blood sugar spikes and is strongly linked to a lower risk of many diseases. A distinction is often made between soluble and insoluble fiber.

Soluble fiber is known to be able to feed the friendly gut bacteria in the intestine, which are very important for our health and the optimal functioning of our bodies. A 100 gram (3.5 ounce) serving of avocado contains 7 grams of fiber, which is 27% of the recommended daily amount. About 25% of the fiber in avocado is soluble, while 75% is insoluble.

It is known that several blood diseases are linked to an increased in triglycerides intake. This diseases include blood pressure and various others.The effects of avocado on some of these risk factors has been studied in 8 human controlled trials. These are studies where people are split into groups… one group is instructed to eat avocados, while the other is not. Then researchers see what happens to their blood markers over time.These studies have shown that avocados can:

  • Reduce total cholesterol levels significantly.
  • Reduce blood triglycerides by up to 20%.
  • Lower LDL cholesterol by up to 22%.
  • Increase HDL (the “good”) cholesterol by up to 11%.

One of the studies showed that including avocado in a low-fat vegetarian diet led to improvements in the cholesterol profile.

studies have proven that Avocado consumers are found to be much healthier than people who dodn’t eat avocados. They have a much higher nutrient intake and are half as likely to have metabolic syndrome, a cluster of symptoms that are a major risk factor for heart disease and diabetes. People who eat avocados regularly also weighed less, had a lower BMI and significantly less belly fat. They also had more HDL (the “good”) cholesterol.

The monounsaturated fats in avocado are also beneficial for improving your skin tone and appearance. They are vital for maintaining good moisture levels in the epidermal layer of your skin that make it look and feel soft and healthy. These omega-9 fats are known to assist in reducing skin redness and irritation and are involved in repairing damaged skin cells. A good dietary intake of monounsaturated fat can moderate sebum production as well, which helps control acne, blackheads and excessively oily skin.

Avocado benefits also include protecting your skin from wrinkles and other visible signs of aging with its antioxidant carotenoids; vitamin E which helps guard against photo-aging from sun exposure; and vitamin C which is involved in the creation of elastin and collagen for maintaining your skin’s elasticity and firmness.
